Aalborg Denmark
Aalborg has approximately 120, 000 inhabitants and is the fourth largest city in Denmark. It is the home of the Danish Distilleries and is the largest manufacturer and dealer in spirits in the whole of Scandinavia. The Aalborg airbase belonging to the Danish Air force is also located there.
In the Middle Ages Aalborg was occupied by the Vikings and was a very important harbour, today it still has an important reputation for trade. The streets are full of history with the half timbered Aalborghus Castle, now being the home of the government offices.
To view the city at its best, take a visit to Aalborgtarnet, the cities observation tower. In the last week of May, Aalborg becomes a buzzing hive of activity with its carnival attracting over 100,000 people. This carnival is absolutely wonderful for all ages with street processions, stage shows, concerts and fantastic firework displays.
The Jomfru Ane Gade is the place to head for cafe and restaurants by day and pubs and discotheques by night. Venture out of the city and find the Forest of Rold, which is home to many species of red trees and a very special circus museum. Summer is the best season for weather, it is pleasant and warm but the winter months can be quite cold.
