Naples Area Information
Naples is the capital of the region of Campania; it inhabits over a million people and is the most industrious part of the south of Italy. The city is located in the Bay of Naples nested between the famous volcano “Vesuvius” and the Phlegrean fields.  Naples was according to myths founded by a mermaid named Parthenope; she was apparently washed up on a rock after being heart broken by Odysseus.
The first people to live in Naples were Greek sailors, but has since known Romans, Saracens, Normans, French and Spanish, all of whom have left a mark on the city’s art, local dialect and way of life. Today, Naples is a bustling and lively place, famous for its passionate songs, festivals, and traditions. Really interesting parts of the city are the Old Spacca Quarter (the heart of Old Naples) and the seaside Santa Lucia sector.  Naples enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate.
