About Norway

Once ruled by the Vikings, Norway grew considerably larger between the eighth to eleventh centuries. It entered into a close alliance with Denmark which was eventually broken during a war between Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Norway then declared itself independent. Norway remained neutral in World War I, it also tried to remain neutral in World War II, but was attacked by Germany. Norway is a member of NATO. It has so far refused to join the EU. Norwegian culture has a rich heritage dating back to the early ninth century. One of the most famous authors of all times, Henrik Ibsen, comes from Norway.
