Work Equipment:
Hazardous parts of moving machinery must always be securely guarded. You must never remove a guard unless authorised to do so. Never operate any equipment unless you have been trained to do so. Always isolate the equipment from the electrical supply before cleaning.
Ladders should be regularly inspected and employees who use ladders should be instructed in there safe use. All work equipment should be inspected in accordance with any advice from the suppliers. Only use the work equipment for what it is intended.
Always report defective or unsound electrical equipment or wiring.
Never repair it yourself unless it is part of your job responsibilities and you are qualified to do so.
Never overload electrical sockets or allow others to do so as this could cause a fire.
Never allow electrical leads to trail across working areas.
The gas appliances will be regularly serviced by competent persons. You should only light the gas if you have been trained to do so. If the equipment does not light immediately and there is a build up of gas, allow it to dissipate before trying to re-light.
If gas is smelt:
Do not use any naked flames
Open doors and windows
Contact your manager who will in turn contact the gas board
Do not switch on or off the lights or any portable switch appliance switch
Shut off the gas
You must only use good quality knives, which are intended for the purpose and which are sharp and in good condition.
Knives should be used on chopping boards, which are firm and not subject to slipping. They should be placed in a protected area where people are unlikely to cut themselves. When using a sharp knife, use a firm grip and cut downwards, away from the body. When carrying knives, the point should be downwards. Always immediately wash and store knifes when finished with.
